The global emergency provoked by COVID-19 has led many countries to take unprecedented action. Latin America was no exception. Governments had to respond to a worldwide disease. The armed forces have been called upon to carry out a wide range of tasks, however seeing the military on the street produces varying reactions, exacerbated by the fact that a few months ago they had to react to face protests and riots in several South American countries. Each country has its legal framework and context. This article focuses on the experiences of the Argentine Republic, whose armed forces have been disregarded for long. It examines the relationship between the presence of the State and the strengthening of military institutions. If the State is more present: are its armed forces as well? Will this effect be sustained after the pandemic is over?
